Durham Canine Update has been in existence since 1979, and is
comprised of graduates of the School of Canine Science and Durham College Canine Science
Program (Oshawa, Ontario).
The Club was originally
established to continue our own education, and has since expanded to try to help educate
others as well. We hold monthly meetings for our members (sometimes including guest
speakers), and also hold "public events", such as eye clinics, correction
matches, measuring clinics and seminars.
DCU is a non-profit
organization. We do not hold dog shows or obedience trials, although most of us
participate in both, as well as holding membership and offices in a number of All-Breed
Clubs, Obedience Clubs, and Specialty Clubs. We make charitable donations to different
organizations, including Guelphs Pet Trust Fund, Canine Vision Canada, Michigan
State University Purebred Dog Endowment Fund, Canine Academy for Education & Research
(C.A.R.E.).
